What Is the Sentence Case Converter?

This conversion tool detects sentences (or groups of words) in any text input and converts the first letter of the first word of each sentence to uppercase. Additionally, it converts most proper nouns, such as names of people, places, or organizations, to title case, depending on the context. All other words remain in lowercase.

However, it isn't always easy to determine whether a proper noun should be capitalized. Family names that are spelled like certain words, and the "new" in "New York" are examples. If the algorithm determines that the word is a name or part of a name, the first letter will be changed to a capital letter.

Why Use the Sentence Case Converter?

This tool is very useful for speed writers, where they just type at a high rate without any concern about upper case or lower case. If the document was all written in all lower case, for example, it can quickly be run through this converter to make sure it has all the right capitalization within seconds.

When using a word processing tool, most grammatical mistakes will be autocorrected as you type, but there can still be a few capitalization mistakes that need to be corrected, which can easily be done with our sentence case conversion tool.

There are other cases where documents are often written in all caps, such as legal documents (end-user agreements, etc.). They can be easily converted into a more readable form by using this tool.

Sentence case conversion is often used for titles, headings, and headlines for many newspapers and other publications in the US and UK. This capitalization style is known as the "down style" or "reference style".

What Is the Difference Between Sentence Case and Title Case Converter?

A sentence or title capitalization tool is a convenient solution for converting titles and/or text into various capitalization styles. The sentence case and title case converters both involve capitalizing certain words in a given text, based on the context. Capital letters play a significant role in all types of text, altering the style of writing, especially for headings.

For title case conversion, not only the first letter is to be capitalized, but all important words must be capitalized also, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and pronouns. Generally, everything else is left in lower case, including coordinating conjunctions, articles, and prepositions with fewer than four letters. There are many different style guides for title case conversion, and their rules vary on how certain words should be capitalized.

The sentence case converter might look simple, since there is basically one style guide for conversion, with the first letter of each sentence capitalized. However, the conversion rules can be very complex as the algorithm tries to figure out the capitalization for certain proper nouns, and abbreviations/acronyms. For this reason, the level of accuracy for sentence case conversion will not be as high as in the title case conversion, where the capitalization for almost every word is determined by a specific set or rules.
