What Is the Word Finder?
The Word Finder shows words that fit letter clues so you can solve or score higher in word games. Click an example search in the Word Finder tab, then run your own.
Make words from letters
For Words With Friends, Jumble, Scrabble, and other word games, enter your letters to see the words you can make. Add ? for a blank tile (maximum 3) and use Starts with / Ends with / Contains sequence to fit a word on the board.
Find words that fit in a grid
For crosswords and codeword puzzles, use Pattern in Advanced filters to enter a word with missing letters: s?a?e finds five-letter words with s, a, and e in those positions, while c*tion finds words that start with c and end with tion.
Solve a Wordle
Switch to the Wordle Solver to enter the letters you know and narrow down your guess. Set the word length, then add known positions, wrong positions, and letters not in the word.
Explore spelling patterns
For vocabulary practice, use Starts with / Ends with / Contains sequence to see words that contain “gh” or start with “str”, for example.
Leave Your letters empty when you want to search the whole dictionary. Use Word length to choose a length, or leave it blank to group matches by length. In Advanced filters, Must include letters requires individual letters anywhere in the word, while Must exclude letters rules them out. Repeating an included letter requires that many copies.
About the Word List and Games
The English Word Finder dictionary is built from the ENABLE word list, with commonness information from the English Speller Database and editorial curation. It doesn't fetch today's puzzle, and a game may not accept some of the words shown here. Suggested words include US and British spellings.
Wordle is published by The New York Times Company. Words With Friends is published by Zynga. SCRABBLE is a trademark of Hasbro in the United States and Canada and of Mattel elsewhere.
